KHUMBU SHERPA PROJECT

"To support Sustainable Development and preserve Cultural Heritage"

The Khumbu region takes its name from the Khumbu Glacier - the highest glacier in the world - which tumbles down to the head of the valley from high on the slopes of Mount Everest in Nepal.

For over a century Mount Everest and the Khumbu valley have been a magnet for climbers, trekkers and tourists, drawing them back again and again to this beautiful landscape, its people and its cultural heritage. It’s somewhere that gets into your blood, under your skin. Once experienced never forgotten.

Trekking and climbing have become the primary source of income for the people who live here and whilst that has brought many benefits, the ever increasing number of visitors is in turn causing its own problems. Pollution, much of it in the form of plastic waste, together with the ever increasing demand for accommodation and related services, are the present challenges facing this remote and inaccessible region.

The Khumbu Sherpa Project has been created to help address these issues, working with the local people to support their sustainable development in this beautiful region and to help preserve their cultural heritage for future generations to come.
